The UoN Cheerleading society began in 2013, where the club started out training on one of the Callaghan campus ovals, practicing cartwheels and handstands on the grass. In 2014, we moved to the Forum gym on campus, with an hour long PT session, and 2 hours of stunt training on a single run mat per week. It was in 2014 that we began supporting the University’s other sports teams, like rugby.
At the end of 2014, we began our partnership with the East Coast Allstars, and spent our 2015 training in the Gateshead cheerleading gym. We completed our frst competition circuit that year with great results. The club continued to fourish in 2016, growing our squad and becoming even more successful in competition, coming home with a Level 2 Nationals championship victory.
2017 saw a change in the University division rules, resulting in a consolidation of our teams into a single co-ed squad. Despite this disruption, we placed in the top 10 in the country at Nationals. We look forward to returning to a two-team structure for 2018, further increasing our numbers and our success both on and off the mat.
